For Bodil Nielsen, painting provides the opportunity for creating spatial manifestations and open associative thoughts for the viewer. They touch our collective memories and play on the veil through which we see things. Well-known dualities are being set free and we are offered a new visual field of our own.

The paintings’ geometrical and ornamental formations can be experienced simultaneously as being both too large and too small. They interact with each other and appear to be present in different dimensions. Instead of a subtraction of space we are provided with more. One is encouraged to look at the work both close-up and from afar, and to research the individual artistic detail as well as the paintings as a whole. In this way, the process of investigating the work can be considered the real subject and purpose of looking at the presented paintings.

Bodil Nielsen studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts and at the Jan van Eyck Akademie, Maastricht (NL). She has exhibited widely around the world, including places such as Charlottenborg Kunsthal, Copenhagen, and the Boijmans van Beuningen Museum in Rotterdam as well as in the USA. She is represented at Statens Kunstfond, Ny Carlsberg Foundation as well as at Statens Museum for Kunst.
